# Obsidian

> Knowledge base with powerful AI plugins

Obsidian is a powerful local-first knowledge management and note-taking application that stores notes as plain markdown files on your device, ensuring you own your data permanently. Its AI plugin ecosystem adds local LLM integration, AI summarization, semantic search, and intelligent linking suggestions that help you surface connections between ideas in your knowledge base. Researchers, writers, developers, and knowledge workers use Obsidian to build a personal knowledge graph — a "second brain" — that grows more valuable over time as connections between ideas accumulate.
